Idyllwild is a popular South Californian mountain resort, nestled high in San Jacinto mountains. The idyllic location is the perfect base for explore the mountainous surroundings. Set among tall pine forests with the sweet smell of cedars through the streets, this quaint town still has its authentic mountain town atmosphere. Our mountain cabins are at walking distance from the town’s centre and its restaurants and local shops. They are the perfect stay for families, couples or groups of friends who wish to get away from traffic jams and the buzzing city life, and spend a few days in the high country. One of the best things to do here is to explore the region by hiking one of the many trails located at close distance from Idyllwild.

The town is surrounded by two prominent rock formations that are the destination of some popular hiking trails: Suicide Rock and Tahquitz Rock. Both trailheads are located on a short distance from our vacation rentals in Idyllwild. Suicide Rock, named after the Native America princess who rather throw herself from this rock than forever be seperated from her lover, can best be reached via the Deer Springs trail.

Another popular hike of which the trailhead is easily accessible from Idyllwild ́s town centre is Ernie Maxwell Scenic trail, a five mile hike providing views over Suicide Rock. The trail itself is an easy and dog-friendly trail for the whole family. Perfect for those who wish to spend a weekend getaway in Idyllwild with their loved ones. Another great place for families is the Idyllwild Nature Center where a number of trails start that are well-doable for small children.

Looking for a more challenging trail? Why not have a go at the Calhuilla Mountain trail or the Fuller Ridge trail, which is part of the Pacific Crest Trail? Though still considered as a moderate trail, the section starting from the junction with Deer Springs trail towards San Jacinto Peak is a strenuous one and should not be taken lightly. The Webster trail, named after the rancher that used this trail for his cattle during the 19th century, is another scenic but strenuous hike. It takes you over the ridge on the western slopes. A big effort, but with a great reward as you will be granted views of the San Jacinto and Hemet Valleys.

Needless to say that Idyllwild has numerous opportunities for hiking and is the perfect place to spend some time in a vacation rental in California, while enjoying the impressive and majestic mountain landscapes.
